I had always wanted to try Yoga.
And not just because all the cool girls on Instagram are always doing incredible poses on a beautiful beach somewhere, but I love how much calmer it seems than other physical activity. I’ve never been great super active, aggressive sports. Plus, I’d love love love to get more flexible! So, I began my research…
And I found out that Yoga is not cheap. And I am on a very much studenty budget. The classes that come free with my gym membership are always fully booked a week in advance and I’m kind of apprehensive about turning up to the university Yoga society because although I’m great at breathing, I felt like I’d be the only person that can’t touch my toes.
So I turned to Google, as we do in our most serious times of need, and I stumbled upon Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. This is perfect, I thought! It meant that I could try my hand at being a yogi in the privacy of my bedroom and if I didn’t like it then I could pack it in, no qualms.
As it turns out- I absolutely love it.
I was in the middle of major essay stress when I tried one of Adriene’s first videos and I found that taking out 20 minutes or so from my work and just stretching about on my carpet and doing deep funny breaths was unbelievably relaxing. She is also such an uplifting person to listen to and really just helps you to push aside your to do list and chill out for a while. I’m always so busy and I feel like I never take time out to just do not much at all.
I also couldn’t believe how much I started aching the day after Yoga practice. It is such a work out. I’ve only been doing it every now and then for about a month or so now and I’m already feeling more strong than I was before starting.
The internet tells me that Yoga gives you good posture and better balance, two things that I’m lacking so I’m also really hoping that these will both come with time.
So I recommend anyone that hasn’t tried out Yoga before to get on Adriene’s channel and give the 30 day challenge a go. Just think how cool your Instagram will look the next time you’re on a beautiful beach somewhere and you whip out your Yogi poses.
